INTERVIEW WITH GREATER GOODS FOUNDER JAIMUS TAILOR (JAIMUS_)
Greater Goods (greater.goods) is a london-based design project dedicated to sustainability. The label was started by Jaimus Tailor (@jaimus_) in 2018 with the intention of upcycling damaged or unwanted products and turning them into aesthetic-yet-practical pieces.
Only 2 years after its inception, the brand was approached by Arc'teryx to create a collection of pieces. The collection featured items such as Kimonos, Shell Jackets, Tote bags, Crossbody bags, and Bottle bags, with each piece coming with its own authentication card. All the pieces were made from damaged/old Arc’teryx jackets & were all completely unique.
We asked Jaimus some questions about Greater Goods, his fashion background, and of course the collaboration:
A: Where did you get your start in fashion (design, sewing etc)?
J: I've always been interested in design but I learnt to sew in 2019 as a new years resolution. I feel there's a real lack of appreciation when it comes to sewing and construction in textiles. The overall design gets all the attention but I've always been fascinated with the actual joints and techniques.
A: What was the original idea behind the collab?
J: the idea for the Collab came about when the ex creative director of arcteryx Cooper (@coopygill) reached out to work on a project that supported a good local cause or group. At the time I was building a proposal for arcteryx and I was perfect serendipity that they got in touch at the same time.
A: Why did you choose those specific pieces?
J: when that collection had released I was still incredibly new to sewing and textiles so I wanted to produce pieces that I was comfortable with but would also allow me to push myself. The kimonos were a real challenge at the time and as the jackets were all damaged It was quite a tricky task to make a full collection.
A: How much creative freedom did arcteryx give you over the collab?
J: I'll be forever grateful to arcteryx and the creative freedom that they give on projects. The freedom expanded to art direction and imagery as well as the design of the newspaper, it was the first holistic project we had worked on so to have such flexibility made things very fun to work on.
