The Iconic Oakley Over The Top
In 1975, Oakley was founded by genius creator Jim Jannard. The company would start by selling motorcycle accessories - created from a rubber material that was created to provide a solution for when wet rubber would loose traction. Oakley would move into creating eyewear in 1984, with the first release of the ‘Factory Pilot Eyeshades’.
The Oakley OTT is made from Oakley’s signature ‘O-Matter’, and was designed by @peteryeedesign , taking design inspiration from the Timebomb & Pro M-Frame, with a shape that resembles a human skull, instead of just being completely circular.
The OTT became an instant talking point all over the globe, after the 2000 Sydney Olympics when Ato Boldon & Niconner Alexander were seen sporting the frames for the 4x100m Semi Final. The frames were also made famous by a selection of movies in the 2000s that used the frame as costume, with the character ‘Arnold’ in Spy Kids 3 arguably being the most iconic.
