M65 Military Fishtail Parka
Margaret Howell, born in Surrey in 1946, studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London, where she developed a keen eye for craftsmanship and design. Initially experimenting with vintage garments, she gained recognition in the early 1970s for her unisex shirts, celebrated for their impeccable tailoring and minimalist aesthetic. Her ethos—focused on timelessness, functionality, and quality—contrasted sharply with the flamboyant trends of the era.
In 1972, Howell started her eponymous brand - based around british heritage, workwear, and natural materials. The brands designs were defined by clean lines, neutral colours, and understated sophistication.
This Jacket is Howells take on the classic M65 Military Parka. Featuring a cotton/nylon blend, the jacket is made in japan, and uses RiRi hardware, with adjustable features at the hem, hip, and hood.
Japan proved pivotal to her success, with her first Tokyo store opening in 1980. The Japanese market’s appreciation for craftsmanship and minimalism aligned perfectly with her brand ethos, and today Japan remains a major hub for her business.
