EMBROIDERED SIDEBAG

In March 2011, Japan experienced its largest recorded earthquake. This caused mass power outages and led to the dimming of the bright lights in Tokyo, and phone connections to be wiped out. During these outages, the three Billionaire Boys Club alumni; Toby Feltwell, Hishiyama Yutaka, and legendary designer SK8THING, would come together to create a brand that would allow them to continue working together, as the sale of Bape would mean an end to the trio. This resulted in the conception of Cav Empt. The name is derived from the Latin phrase “caveat emptor” which translates to “buyer beware”, and was stumbled upon by Sk8thing whilst reading the Sci-Fi book “Ubik”, as one of the characters had a tattoo with the phrase. The brands typically features retro futuristic imagery that is heavily inspired by Giallo & B-movies.

Although C.E. was conceptualised in Japan, the brand takes some inspiration from UK culture - and in their SS2012 Collection they called on UK Grime legends @omygoshitsddoublee & @timandbarry to feature in the lookbook. Even the collection would feature UK-typical nylon tracksuits, with baggier cuts & C.E. graphics.

One of C.E’s biggest selling points is their ‘If you know then you know’ approach to direction & distribution. The owners of the brand would rather wearers are people who understand the brand, instead of putting it in every retailer possible and diluting what it actually is. Toby Feltwell is quoted as saying “You couldn’t just decide to be a member. It took a bit of effort. …everything in modern society is geared to making consumption easier, and these kinds of associations where, like, “You’re not allowed to wear that T-shirt because you don’t know what it means” are an easy barrier to consumption. There’s a certain romance to it.”.

This sidebag features the Cav Empt logo embroidered across the front, and is constructed from a padded polyester material. The bag features a large main zip pocket, as well as a smaller front zip pocket, and a rear slip pocket.
