    OAKLEY

    X-METAL ROMEO (1997) (BLACK IRIDIUM)

In 1975, Oakley was founded by genius creator Jim Jannard. The company would start by selling motorcycle accessories - created from a rubber material that was created to provide a solution for when wet rubber would loose traction. Oakley would move into creating eyewear in 1984, with the first release of the 'Factory Pilot Eyeshades'.

X-Metal was a five metal alloy material comprised mostly of titanium, which gave it incredible strength. The frames are virtually indestructible and were even able to withstand being driven over by a BMP-1 Armoured Tank. The X-Metal line was an instant success amongst the public, and added promotion from celebrities like Michael Jordan didn't hurt the brand.

The X-Metal line was announced in 1996 and officially launched in 1997 with the iconic Romeo. Engineered to be the strongest sunglasses ever made, the Romeo could reportedly withstand the weight of a car without sustaining damage. The Romeo remains one of the most recognisable sunglasses ever produced, worn by celebrities and athletes around the world. Notable appearances include Michael Jordan during the 1997 Championship celebrations and actor Robin Williams.

This pair is in great condition with barely any signs of wear. The original lenses with the "X-METAL" engraving are slightly cracked, and have been replaced with brand new black iridium lenses. both sets of lenses will be included with the sale.
